Welcome to the twelfth issue of Etihas.in, the online video magazine of history, arts and culture of India and South Asia. We hope our stories and interviews will entertain and inspire you, and arouse your appetite for more about our rich and diverse pasts. Kindly note: From January 2017, the initial name of this web archive, etihas.in, is being changed to Ektara.

1. Prof. Suraj Bhan: Archaeology and Communal Forces
On the 24th anniversary of the demolition of Babari mosque in Ayodhya (UP), we present a lecture by the well known archaeologist (late) Prof. Suraj Bhan who talks about the importance of history and archaeology in our lives and how unprofessional archaeology has been used to spread hatred and advance communalism. Recorded in 2003 in Kurukshetra.

2. Featured Video: Gandhara, the Renaissance of Buddhism
In the series Eurasia, this is an in-depth documentary film about the evolution of Buddhism in Gandhara, produced by NHK and France 5. Directed by Patrick Cabouat and Alain Moreau, this version has English commentary.

3. India's Historic Coins and Currency:
At a time when India is going through a process of demonetization, we bring you a list resources on how coins and currency has been created, used and manipulated in India for thousands of years. See the list here >>
